Define the conversion ladder
Separate actions by business meaning. A contact click indicates intent, a server-confirmed form submission indicates a stored enquiry and a qualified lead requires an operational decision.
This prevents reports from treating every click as equivalent revenue opportunity.
- Contact intent: call, email, WhatsApp or booking click
- Captured lead: successfully stored form or confirmed booking
- Qualified lead: accepted against business criteria
- Closed outcome: sale, project or retained customer
Track success, not button presses
For forms, fire the lead event only after the server confirms successful validation and storage. Prevent duplicate events on refresh or repeated interface actions.
Never send names, email addresses, phone numbers or free-text enquiry details to analytics.
Validate the complete journey
Test consent states, mobile and desktop actions, form errors, successful submissions, external booking domains and CRM handoffs.
Document the event name, trigger, parameters, destination and expected count.
Report limitations honestly
Browser privacy, consent choices, call systems and cross-device behavior can create gaps. Reporting should distinguish measured leads from total operational leads and reconcile with the CRM where possible.
