Original framework
Call evidence ladder
Name the strongest fact each measurement source can support.
Track telephone clicks as intent
Use a consistent event for interactions with valid telephone links and record privacy-safe context such as page type or call placement when useful. Label the metric accurately as a click, not a call.
Choose a completed-call source
Where completed calls matter, evaluate a call-tracking platform, telecom record or CRM workflow. Define minimum duration, answered status, duplicate handling and number-swapping behavior before treating a record as connected.
Preserve landing-page context carefully
Dynamic numbers and integrations can help connect calls to sessions, but attribution depends on cookies, consent, device behavior, caller actions and provider capabilities. Document the attribution window and failure cases.
Add business qualification
Create dispositions such as valid enquiry, existing customer, supplier, recruitment, spam, wrong area and unsuitable service. Staff need a simple, governed process or the qualification data will be inconsistent.
Test the complete call path
Test mobile and desktop links, displayed number replacement, direct calls, forwarding, missed calls, voicemail, repeated callers and reporting exports. Confirm emergency or regulated call routes are not disrupted by measurement.
Respect privacy and disclosure requirements
Call recording, number insertion and customer data can create legal and operational obligations. Obtain appropriate specialist advice for the markets involved; an analytics configuration is not legal advice.
